The band began as a wishful thought. Guitarist Timothy Stimpson and Vocalist Tony Martinez found an equal desire to do more with their college lives than eat, sleep and study. ''The difference between dreams and reality is action'', and it was with this in mind that the two sought out like-minded members, which would not be difficult attending a school with one of the nation's finest music programs. The search produced highly professional and motivated members. This was the Brink of Something Beautiful of young - a group of kids with different backgrounds and influences. In one corner, guitarists, Timothy Stimpson and Brandon Mayer, brought a Northeastern United States influence, deeply rooted in hardcore music, metal, and classical guitar. In another corner, drummer and vocalist, Karl Fagerstrom, offered a taste of the progressive Seattle music scene with an improvisational jazz style unmatched by many. Bassist, Dana Salminen, came to the band with a rare European and South Pacific music scene influence combined with a love for modern rock, and Vocalist Tony Martinez brings a Southeastern hardcore music influence along with experience from previous bands to the mix.
Brink of Something beautiful has no identity. Often playing on both sides of the spectrum, the band can be aggressive yet contemplative, heavy yet melodic; transparent yet complicated. With descriptions of the band ranging from Hardcore, to Screamo, Post-Hardcore and Alternative, the band offers no light on the subject. ''We play what we know or learn as we go'', says bassist Dana Salminen. What they know, however, is evident in each song from their extensive knowledge of music theory to their knowledge of themselves, and only serves to emphasize the complete message of each work. What formed is a cohesive unit with the ability to bring brutality and beauty together in a sort of symbiotic relationship. Armed with this ability and their desire for something greater, the band was finally on the brink of something beautiful.
